A Major Recognition for Serbia: NEAQA Granted Recognition Status by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME)

The National Entity for Accreditation and Quality Assurance in Higher Education (NEAQA) was granted Recognition Status today, May 5, 2025, by the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME), making Serbia, including the Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija, one of the countries with an internationally recognized quality assurance system in medical education.

This status is granted to NEAQA for a period of 10 years from the date of recognition, representing a strong indicator of confidence in the expertise, quality, and performance of NEAQA.

The recognition process by WFME includes a thorough and rigorous evaluation of professional competence, procedures, and alignment with international standards in the field of medical education.

WFME’s recognition of NEAQA represents a strategically significant step for medical faculties in Serbia and their graduates, particularly given that only graduates from countries whose national accreditation agencies are recognized by WFME will be eligible to apply to the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG). This recognition directly impacts the international mobility and further professional development opportunities for medical doctors who complete integrated academic studies in medicine in Serbia.

This is an important step toward strengthening the reputation of Serbia’s national accreditation body and enhancing its visibility at the global level.
