ENQA PRESIDENT HELD A MEETING WITH NEAQA’S EXPERT BODIES

As part of the official visit of the President of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA), Prof. Daniela Cristina Ghițulică, PhD, to the National Entity for Accreditation and Quality Assurance in Higher Education (NEAQA), a meeting with members of the Commission for Accreditation and Quality Assurance (CAQA), the Commission for Deciding on Appeals (Appeals Commission) and the NEAQA management was held on Tuesday, 5 May 2026, from 14:00 to 15:00, at the Palace of Serbia.

The participants were welcomed by the Director of NEAQA, Prof. Nebojša Zdravković, PhD, who underlined the importance of the official visit of the ENQA President for the further development of the quality assurance system in the Republic of Serbia, particularly in the context of NEAQA’s activities aimed at regaining full membership in ENQA.

Welcome remarks were also delivered by Prof. Stefan Milojević, PhD, Head of the Director’s Office and Assistant Director of NEAQA for Accreditation, Initial Accreditation and External Quality Assurance, who moderated the meeting and led the discussion.

The discussion focused on accreditation and external quality assurance procedures, decision-making processes, as well as issues related to consistency, uniformity and transparency of outcomes in the procedures carried out by NEAQA.

Particular attention was given to the role of NEAQA’s expert bodies in safeguarding the credibility of accreditation procedures, the application of standards and procedures, and the functioning of an independent and clearly regulated appeals mechanism, in line with European quality assurance principles.

During the meeting, the participants were addressed by Prof. Predrag Mirković, PhD, President of CAQA, and Prof. Bojan Bojanić, PhD, President of the Appeals Commission. Prof. Mirković presented the role of CAQA as NEAQA’s expert body in accreditation and external quality assurance procedures, with reference to the application of standards, the work of peer-review panels and the need for consistent and uniform decision-making. Prof. Bojanić spoke about the role of the Appeals Commission in ensuring legal certainty, protecting the rights of participants in the procedure and strengthening trust in the accreditation system.

The participants exchanged views on the possibilities for further improving procedures, strengthening trust in NEAQA’s decisions and ensuring alignment with the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG), taking into account NEAQA’s activities aimed at regaining full membership in ENQA.

The meeting represented an important part of the official visit of the ENQA President and an opportunity for direct discussion on the role of NEAQA’s expert bodies in the further development of a reliable, transparent and European-aligned quality assurance system in higher education in the Republic of Serbia.
