BELGRADE – Two decades after the establishment of the accreditation system in Serbian higher education, a total of 2,127 study programmes at all levels of study are currently accredited in the country. The National Entity for Accreditation and Quality Assurance in Higher Education (NEAQA) continues to focus on key priorities, including strengthening quality and transparency, improving accreditation procedures, and aligning its work with European standards and guidelines for quality assurance in higher education.
Prof. Dr. Nebojša Zdravković, Director of NEAQA, stated in an interview with RTS 1 that one of the strategic goals of both NEAQA and the Republic of Serbia is the restoration of full membership in the European quality assurance associations in higher education.
For the academic community, the most important priorities are further strengthening the culture of quality, advancing scientific research, increasing participation in international academic developments, and fostering greater student involvement in quality assurance processes, Prof. Zdravković emphasized.
Speaking about the future development of higher education, Zdravković recalled that in early June, Serbian Prime Minister Prof. Dr. Đuro Macut and representatives of NEAQA met with deans of faculties in the fields of engineering, technology, and natural sciences to discuss the modernization of existing study programmes and the accreditation of new ones. The discussions focused on modernizing curricula, developing joint and interdisciplinary programmes, and aligning higher education with contemporary scientific achievements and labour market needs. Similar meetings with deans from other academic fields are planned, with the aim of shaping the future of education and further improving the quality of study programmes.
Ahead of the upcoming enrolment period, Prof. Zdravković appealed to prospective students and their parents to consult the Student Guide available on the NEAQA website before making enrolment decisions and to verify whether both the higher education institution and the study programme they intend to enrol in are accredited. Information on accreditation status is available through the official records maintained by NEAQA.
